Paramedics have flown to Hardy Reef on the Great Barrier Reef in North Queensland to retrieve a man in his 20s who was bitten on the leg by a shark.
The crew of the CQ Rescue helicopter had to winch the man aboard from Heart Pontoon.
He was flown to Mackay Base Hospital in a stable condition.
Paramedics said early reports indicated the attack happened at about 12:30pm.
The Queensland Ambulance Service said the rescue helicopter had a critical care paramedic on board.
Hardy Reef is about 80 kilometres north-east of Airlie Beach and is a popular mooring point for day trips and snorkelling on the reef.
Late last year, a man died and two others were seriously injured in three separate shark attacks that occurred within six weeks at Cid Harbour on Whitsunday Island.
Cid Harbour is about 60 kilometres south-west of Hardy Reef.
