A driver has been caught reaching speeds of more than 150 kilometres per hour on a busy Canberra road in the middle of the day with a blood-alcohol reading more than four times the legal limit.
Officers spotted the car on the Tuggeranong Parkway near the Glenloch Interchange, where the signposted speed limit is 90kph.
They estimate he overtook their unmarked police car and reached a speed of more than 150kph before being stopped.
Dashcam video from the police car showed the blue ute speeding past the officers from the left lane. At one point, the driver was forced to hit the brakes to avoid the car in front of him.
When the 44-year-old driver from Jerrabomberra, in New South Wales, was pulled over, officers conduced a breath test and it indicated he was drunk.
A further test at City Police Station suggested his blood-alcohol reading was 0.227 — more than four times the legal limit of 0.05.
The driver was granted bail and summonsed to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court charged with high-level drink driving, aggravated dangerous driving and speeding.
